Dune: Part Two

2024

When people first saw Star Wars in 1977, they were blown away by the visual effects and how different it was from any sci-fi project that came before it. But they didn’t understand the intricacies of how the Force worked, the conflict between the Jedi and Sith, and so on. It was really The Empire Strikes Back that tied it all together.

Dune: Part One was a visual masterpiece, and I appreciated it for what it was, but I wasn't quite in love with the story or the characters inhabiting it. It’s now clear that Part One walked so Part Two could run faster than Paul Atreides trying to latch onto the grandfather of all sandworms.

The scale. The fight choreography. The humor! The satisfaction. Villeneuve brings it all. He delves into the story's Eastern influence, the blinding power of faith, and how psychedelic substances can elevate consciousness in a manner I never thought I’d see in an American blockbuster. For the first time in years, it feels like I witnessed a seismic shift in filmmaking that defines the future of cinema — and things are looking absolutely breathtaking.

I didn’t love Dune before, now I adore it.
