Hype is definitely goddamn earned. The last time I’ve felt this way in a cinema was. 2015 with Mad Max: Fury Road. This was a cinematic experience that will stick in my mind for years to come. I’ve heard from various people Dune: Part Two is in fact this generation’s Empire Strikes Back and I have to agree. It is arguably one of the greatest sci-fi epics ever made. I genuinely have no notes. It’s a perfect movie and covers all genres perfectly.
Dune Part Two is a brilliant sequel and a perfect film. I found it to be a completely different beast to the first film and it’s better for it. The cinematography of Greig Fraiser is stunning, every frame is a beautiful painting. I never wanted it to end.
I loved the cast in the first film but adding Florence Pugh just automatically improves it and makes it even better. I will be there opening weekend for Messiah should Denis make it. Everybody puts blood sweat and tears over this and it shows, no matter how much screen time they get. This is genuinely movie stars just doing what they love. Everyone a MVP.
When this is combined with Dune: Part One it is by far the best film interpretation of Frank Herbert’s classic novel DUNE that has ever been done. I will be watching this as a double bill eventually.
Side Note: Christopher Nolan has definitely dodged a bullet because he would not have been able to compete against Dune at all the awards.
Side Note II: Dune Messiah is going to be a very long wait ain’t it. I cannot fucking wait.
