It definitely intends to be darkly funny, but it's kinda hard to laugh about most of the movie because for the first half you're wondering if two of the characters fucked Dick Long to death, and for the second half you're processing that no, a horse did, because they were all fucking a horse. For years.
I'm just saying maybe the jokey moments would have landed better if that weren't the case. Like... maybe it would have been better if…

Dark and Stormy Night distills the comic essence of old dark house movies every bit as effectively as The Lost Skeleton of Cadavra does the sci-fi/horror B movies of the 50s.
I'll always have an extra special place in my heart for Lost Skeleton, but this is also a heck of a good time. It may even be a bit more accessible, as it leans less on the audience's knowledge of genre tropes while still rewarding such knowledge.
Pairs well with an enormous bowl of popcorn.
