Puss in Boots: The Last Wish

2022

Somehow, my first review didn't touch upon Banderas and Hayek being in a movie together again - you'd think I would, considering me being a Robert Rodriguez enjoyer and them being a pair in Desperado, but... well, guess I had to wait a year and a half before bringing that up! Speaking of '90s movies, why did they do a T2 "thumbs up while sinking" reference with Jack Horner, 31 years after that movie's release? Just because they wanted to? Well whatever, it's fine.

Anyway, I still think it's a very good movie, even though the Spiderverse framerate randomly coming in during some fights is a bit annoying, and I'll never get why they decided to have Goldi and the Three Bears be London gangsters, with all the bruv-ery that implies. Also, Jack Horner's comically over-the-top evil gimmick (openly intending to kill a puppy with a point-blank shot to the head, having presumably murdered shitloads of baby unicorns and probably having killed Mary Poppins to steal her bottomless bag, among other things) is not nearly as fun or funny as most people seem to feel it is, at least to me.
But hey, the upside of this watch is that I got "Saejima punching the giant bear in Yakuza 5" flashbacks when Puss got launched upwards and came back down with a decisive blow in his last fight with Death (to the point where I almost expected "Feel the Heat!" to pop up on screen), so that's pretty cool.
