Glazer does the ghostly, queasy problematic age gap dynamic of The Innocents by way of the subjective, claustrophobic, wealthy New York dreamscapes of Eyes Wide Shut and Rosemary's Baby. Nicole even steals the haircut! Sometimes it can backfire but it's always fun to see such a ridiculous premise—in this case, a grieving woman's dead husband ostensibly reincarnated in the body of a young boy—realized so emotionally seriously; around the time she was trying to figure out the logistics of eloping with a 10-year-old to the astonished faces of her family, I was losing my mind. This film gets more heartbreaking on every watch.
Glazer reaches towards the impossible to explore the very real feelings of grief and love. The improbable premise itself is enough to make your head spin: what if your dead husband came back, full of love for you? What if this love didn’t have to die?

The next Stanley Kubrick? I don't think we'll ever get another Kubrick...But I do think I'm okay with having a Jonathan Glazer.
Glazer is an extremely visual director. In that regard, he is very similar to Kubrick. Every sequence is more focused on the frame than what is going on inside of it. Without context, every shot can be pulled out and it's art. The story is forced to work around the frame and the movie pulls much of it's tension from the space created by the director. To say he's brilliant may be jumping the gun...But I've seen two films so far from Glazer that have blown me away.

This whole movie is the "you're at the club with your girl and this guy grabs her ass, wyd?" meme but the guy is a ten-year-old boy.
Respect to Jonathan Glazer and Danny Huston though for perfectly recreating the scene in Barry Lyndon where he melts down at a music recital and tries to beat the shit out of his stepson for publicly owning him, but in the context of the Upper East Side.
Desplat’s score is one for the ages, second only to Bacall’s “I never liked Sean.” that it inspired as much laughter as it did while never undercutting the brutality of its sadness, kind of an insane miracle. Danny Huston & co. "me and my friends would have beat that kid with hammers," etc. Kidman.... the bravest woman alive. there's a lot of immaculate craft here, and a lot that convinces me the connective tissue between Glazer's three films is the power of love!! ain't that grand.
