Ratatouille

2007

★★★★★ Liked Watched

"Ratatouille" is one of those movies where you really don't need a sequel — the original is just flawless and totally enough. It's a fun, charming comedy that's entertaining for kids and adults alike. What's cool is how it tackles moments that other movies usually do the same way, but here they're either rearranged or shown differently, which makes the movie feel fresh and unique. Plus, this lovely Pixar dish brings a rare kind of calmness that adds variety to the usual. It's the perfect movie to cozy up with on a rainy day and warm your heart and soul.

Wrong Turn

2003

★★ 1

"Wrong Turn" kind of floats in that murky space between old-school, overused backwoods horror clichés and a modern-day cannibal picnic – minus the weird charm of vintage exploitation. It never really kicks into gear. The pacing's slow, borderline dull, and even when the hillbillies finally break out the bow and arrow, it's more of a shrug than a shock. The movie clearly wants to be a tribute to 70s and 80s horror, but honestly, it never gives me much reason…

Big Monster on Campus

2000

★★½ 1

Two students kill the school weirdo, and a nerdy scientist's son thinks he can save the day by bringing him back with a spare brain from his dad's lab. Bad idea - the brain belonged to a serial killer. The once-shy nerd's behavior quickly changes. Things escalate as Halloween night approaches. This horror comedy tries to mix Frankenstein with teen movie clichés and throw in some satire. It's all been done before. Nothing new, not very funny (except one or two decent laughs). Totally skippable.

Jeepers Creepers 2

★★★ Rewatched

"Every 23rd spring, for 23 days, it awakens to feed."

The Creeper's back!
In this second round, he's once again thirsty for blood, and it doesn't take long before it claims its first victim.
The opening scenes in the wheat field create a beautifully eerie folk-horror atmosphere. But what follows are 60 minutes centered around a stranded bus full of teenagers.

We get painfully dumb and mostly boring dialogue between of a college sports team and cheerleaders, all set…

Drive Thru

Cringey wannabe gangsters, greasy fast food, a weird looking and trash talking killer clown, dark humor, self-irony, a few brutal kills, retro/old-school flair, annoying and downright dumb teens, playful but pointless supernatural elements, a cute and "defloration-ready" Leighton Meester, and a dark secret from the past.. all of that can be found in this short flick. If only these elements were connected by a plot that didn't take occasional bathroom breaks or kick innovation and suspense right in the ass.

Over a century ago, Lord Ruthven and his sister Diana hunted the beautiful vampire countess Roxanne Dumas. Roxanne's brother eliminated the two hunters by killing them. But a hundred years later, Dracula returns—and so do the hunters, Lord Ruthven and Diana. The erotic battle begins…

"Countess Dracula's Orgy of Blood" explores the lesbian aspect of vampirism. Despite all the "action," the vampire theme is well-executed. The cast is also noteworthy, featuring Paul Naschy and, in particular, Glori-Anne Gilbert, who makes…

Once again, we're stuck in the dark ages, where every day could be your last for no reason at all, even if it's just because your neighbor accused you of being a heretic or a witch…

Ridley Scott pulls together a great cast for "Kingdom of Heaven" with Liam Neeson, Edward Norton, and Brendan Gleeson, who all have the charisma to take on the central role of Balian of Ibelin. However, he opts for Orlando Bloom, who, with his plain…

The Cell

★★★½ Watched

Visually, "The Cell" is an absolute spectacle. The dream sequences are powerful and absolutely mesmerizing, but unfortunately, the story has been somewhat neglected. All in all, it's still gripping enough and great for those who love serial killer narratives.

Shallow Hal

2001

★★★★ Liked Rewatched

After Hal's (Jack Black) perception of women is hypnotically altered, he sees only their inner beauty - making plus-size women appear as stunning skinny beauties and conventionally attractive women as unattractive, depending on their true character.

But the movie doesn't just rely on this premise. Instead, it delivers plenty of smart gags and funny moments. For example, Hal's once-dismissive dream girl suddenly takes an interest in him, now convinced he's not just another shallow guy. (Other highlights include an emotional…

A Pixar movie designed for an older crowd than we’re used to, with a more nuanced humor that works in most parts. The plot is decent, and the characters are pleasantly subtle.
