★★★

One of those movies with a score that’s so low-rent, it’s just a light bed of the same tones in the background seemingly at all times. Reminds me of the uncanny weird unwatchable Netflix seasons of Arrested Development.

Leave it to Paul Schrader to get a fun performance out of Tom Arnold! I’m never not impressed by the casts he assembles and this forgotten Elmore Leonard adaptation is no exception. Hilarious that this came out around the same time as the best Leonard adaptations like GET SHORTY and JACKIE BROWNE and OUT OF SIGHT.

I would like to see more comedies from Schrader but this one is mildly amusing at best. It’s just so flat, which is unlike him!
