Really suprised I slept on this one for so long. Fantastic film with all the Spanish flair you can get that still holds up incredibly well to this day. Thematically it is still very relevant, maybe in a less literal making money off snuff way, but more the way everyone is selling their soul for fame.
Who knew that cultural oppression (all kinds, not just black vs white), the power of music, religion and vampires will make for such an electric experience. Great performances all round. Delicious old school gore with incredible VFX (Coogler clearly made sure that he won’t be burned again by bad VFX after Black Panther) and a transcendant score by Göransson (and many more musicians), he’s probably getting that third Oscar. See it on the biggest screen possible.
