Missing Movies’s review published on Letterboxd:
Missing Movies is very thankful that Turner Classic Movies and Universal screened this wonderful film at the TCM Film Festival in Los Angeles this past weekend. As the film has not been digitally preserved or restored, a lovely 35mm print was made available. TCM host Alicia Malone, director Allison Anders and actor Peter Riegert (the latter two advisory committee of Missing Movies) explained the mission of Missing Movies and that sometimes films just fall between the cracks. Frank Perry's existentialist masterpiece features Tuesday Weld as an actress at a sanitarium recalling how she ended up there. She and Anthony Perkins (as her friend and producer) give astonishing performances. The cinematography with its use of extreme close-ups and wide vistas is beautifully done. Allison Anders noted that the desert hotel used in this film was the same one she used in Border Radio! Missing Movies is hoping we can convince Universal to make this wonderful film more accessible in the future.
