Dune: Part Two

Unfortunately, I found some serious issues with the pacing as the second instalment didn't feel as patient as the first was. Paul's rise to being the messiah figure felt too quick, the introduction of the new characters didn't feel like they were done enough justice. The first part still remains a work of perfection for me. Maybe this should have been a trilogy, with the second part focusing solely on Paul's rise within the Fremen? But these flaws in no way put a huge dent in the overall mesmerism of the world of Dune: the visuals were even more breathtaking, the sounds made my entire body shake; the direction, performances, etc. remain virtually flawless. I found myself gasping for breath more than five times, so breathtaking were the marriage of sounds and visuals. And the classic story of fundamentalism, power and technology battling with humanity itself made me sit back with great satisfaction as the movie ended. It is still something when a work of art has flaws but it still manages to knock your breath out. The Dune series has gone down in cinema history as one of the most aesthetic and evocative works of art.
