The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert

1994

★★★½ Liked Watched

Two drag queens and a trans woman roam around in the Australian Outback in a bus named Priscilla that is always breaking down. This movie is kind of outdated, but was trailblazing for its time. Some of the jokes don’t work in this road trip comedy, but the ones that do are good. What works best, weirdly, are the emotional moments, like sad homophobic hate crimes and some unexpected relationships. There is also great use of ABBA in this movie.…

Minority Report

2002

★★★★ Liked Rewatched

The whole Minority Report movie is just a vehicle to explore the ramifications and ethical issues around precrime, as well as how it works. The basic essence of precrime is arresting people for murders they will commit in the future. The obvious ethical issue is that the cops are arresting people for crimes they didn’t commit, because they haven’t committed them yet. However, this film manages to stuff in as many ethical issues with the precrime program as it can.…

The Road to El Dorado

2000

★★★½ 1

This movie is conspiracy bait. The whole premise revolves around El Dorado being real. And two white guys taking advantage of an indigenous people thinking they’re gods, as well as having ethical dilemmas about it. The guys still get caught in a power struggle between Chief Tammi, the fat guy in the meme; and Tzekel-Kan, a high priest who wants blood sacrifices for the blood gods. The citizens of El Dorado feel like real people at least.

Green Book

2018

★★ 1

Green Book played it way too safe. It should have been gayer, the characters more abrasive. The screenplay is a wasted opportunity that doesn’t delve deeply enough into some issues that define the characters and their world. The green book itself should have been more important. Some comedic moments are good, but that’s because this movie was directed by Peter Farelly, a noted comedy director.

This movie is from the point of view of Tony Lip, which is a shame,…

Moonlight

2016

★★★★ Liked 1

Moonlight is a pure concentrated bullet of sadness disguised as an authentic A24 drama disguised as a sentimental Oscar bait movie. I love sad movies that make me cry if the tears feel earned. Moonlight earns every bit of those tears. This is the perfect movie to be my 100th movie of the year.

Moonlight covers three periods in the life of a black man named Chiron, from bullied kid to bullied teenager to a man trying to find himself.…

This short film does not just contain randomly generated sci fi dystopian backgrounds. It comes from a random generated sci fi dystopian background. I fear AI short films destroying the short film industry, and besides, this film is kind of boring.

Drive-Away Dolls

2024

★★ Watched

Drive-Away Dolls feels like the work of a washed-up director trying to prove that he’s still got it. He does not “still got it,” at least not on this one. This movie is supposed to be funny, and while absurd and mildly amusing, mostly annoyed me. This movie also gives the vibes of “straight man who thinks lesbians are hot.”

Margaret Qualley is doing most of the heavy lifting in here with her terrible fake Texan accent. She looks like…

The Accidental Spy

2001

★★ Watched

The last Jackie Chan movie in my Jackie Chan DVD is also the weakest one. In The Accidental Spy, cool action can’t make up for the boring, convoluted plot. Jackie Chan, an athletic salesman, gets involved in spy stuff. Despite the premise being funny, this movie is too serious. I do not like Jackie Chan films to try and make me cry over dying parents or drug addiction.

There is one action scene in this movie which is the absolute…

Police Story 3: Super Cop

1992

★★★½ Liked 1

For some reason, the DVD of random Jackie Chan movies I have only has the third Police Story in it. I watched this movie anyway, because Michelle Yeoh was in it, and this movie certainly delivered. Michelle Yeoh is so cool as this communist cop. She beats people up and shoots guns and has great chemistry with Jackie Chan. She is the best part of this movie.

Super Cop has amazing stunts, an annoying love triangle angle, and Jackie Chan…

Twin Dragons

1992

★★★ Watched

There’s two of them now! Oh no! Jackie Chan is now twins separated at birth. One of them is a gangster and the other is a concert pianist. When pianist Jackie plays, gangster Jackie twitches his fingers, and when gangster Jackie snorts, pianist Jackie sneezes as well. Twins to not work like that.

The twin premise allows for some good jokes, like everyone fainting when they see two Jackies. It also results in some insufferable romantic tension, and worse. Maggie…
