Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile was a film I was anticipating heavily since the news first broke that Zac Efron was chosen to play Ted Bundy and I have been looking forward to finally seeing the end result. I’m a huge fan of the true crime genre and I’m also unapologetically a big fan of Zac Efron so this movie was made for me. This film is primarily made for people who know at least the basics of this case because it focuses more on Bundy as a person and his relationship with his longtime girlfriend, played by Lily Collins. It’s my main flaw of the film, it doesn’t really do a great job at showing Bundy’s villainy until the end but at the same time, the real life case was similar to how it was portrayed here. Zac Efron gives a career best performance in this movie, he was really fantastic, as was Lily Collins who at times almost felt the lead. I respect the choice they made not to delve deep into the brutality of the crimes but I also feel like it could’ve been explained more to viewers who don’t have previous knowledge of the case. Overall though, it didn’t quite live up to my expectations but I was invested from start to finish and I did end up enjoying the movie even though it isn’t perfect.
