Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning

2025

★★★★½ Liked Watched

This film is a lot to process as Ethan Hunt and the IMF are presented with their most impossible mission yet. The diving sequence with the submarine was remarkably immersive and anxiety-inducing, offering some of the coolest visuals in the franchise. The airplane sequence was unreal and once again showed that there's nothing Tom Cruise won't do to wow the crowd. The Entity and its chaotic nature feel like a feasible threat in today's society. If the franchise ends here (probably not), it would be ending on a memorable highpoint.

Thunderbolts*' emotional resonance with me was greater than I could have imagined. Its announcement was met with skepticism because of the group's unpopular , but the team dynamic by the end of the film is exceptional. Florence Pugh's Yelena has been one of the standout characters from the Multiverse Saga, so seeing her take center stage in a leadership role felt right. David Harbour's Red Guardian was hilarious as expected, but his chemistry with Yelena gave us the best scene…

"I have seen the face of God."
- Howard Beale

This film feels more relevant than ever and it was released nearly 50 years ago. Its ensemble cast performances are some of the strongest I've ever seen. The script is unbelievably good, filled with multiple imioned and intellectually stimulating monologues.

I had the privilege of watching Justin Hurwitz conduct the Chicago Philharmonic Orchestra for a screening of La La Land at The Auditorium. This was one of the best concerts I've been to. The Entr'acte was a beautiful addition! They played the credits songs all the way through. It was great to finally watch this in a packed theater where everybody laughed at the comedic moments and sniffled through the epilogue scene. What an incredible experience!

This is the best film I've seen this year! Mikey Madison should win an Oscar for Best Actress for this powerful performance! It would not surprise me to see Yura Borisov nominated for Best ing Actor for his reserved, yet resonant role. The film has the frantic energy of Uncut Gems (2019) while having the ecstatic Las Vegas high of Casino (1995). Sean Baker skillfully wrote, directed, and edited this to create an energetic rags to riches story that shifts to complete chaos.
