Released in 1971, Valdez Is Coming is an American Western with Spaghetti Western tendencies.
Elevating the film above a plethora of others is Burt Lancaster's lead performance. Lancaster portrays a seemingly cut and paste antihero with a sincere vulnerability and sensitivity rarely seen in the genre. However, much like Eastwood’s haunted William Munny years later. Once pushed to his limit you are left with no doubt that he could bring down an army of men.

A Belgian riff on 70s classics: The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, The Hills Have Eyes and Deliverance. Calvaire is a taut slow burn that oozes palpable tension and unnerving dread.
For those that can endure, the payoff is an intense, grotesque but ultimately satisfying finale.
