Be careful what you wish for.
O how the mighty have fallen.
First let's breakdown what I liked:
The cinematography (Márk Gyõri - Ordinary Failures) was actually one of the movie's bigger assets. It was nice and gritty where it needed to be. It was probably fake digital grain, but it looked cool.

Upon rewatching, 1666 has actually improved for me. I stayed hydrated and alert.
1978 lead Sadie "Ziggy Berman" Sink (our beloved Max Mayfield) has a cameo here, instead playing Constance, the pastor's daughter.
In 1666 Deena becomes Sarah Fier and relives her life. The other actors from the trilogy appear in other ancestral roles as we're transported into Puritanical times.
Everybody is again in top shape. Leigh Janiak. The cast. DP Caleb Heymann. Composer Marco Beltrami. The color grade is again solid. The coda is to die for.

Will Smith acts the hell out of tennis coach and patriarch Richard Williams. This dude is a stubborn ass, a maverick, an iconoclast, a stage dad, who likes to play hardball with his daughters' tennis dreams. Obviously it paid off, and now they're Venus and Serena. But back then, they were just two of five girls with a dream in their hearts.
