not an especially scary horror movie but one of the more horrifying horror movies I’ve seen lately, which is a distinction that makes perfect sense in my head? 

Knows how to make you upset. Not sure I totally found a what for. I sort of still wanted them to ruin my life a bit more?

couple of “please god no” scenes and a closing shot that gets more upsetting the further away from the film I get- A touch of Stephen Gammelian terror pulled from the silhouette of decay.

Would recommend! Just not for anyone hoping to have a giggle-through-jump-scares-Friday-night-scary-movie

ok- it’s obviously not a good movie. But it falls in my exact nostalgia pocket, is a failed attempt to play up the winning characteristics of some still stand out pop culture of its time, yada yada-

Cannot believe I didn’t see this when a teen as it was released and cannot decide if my impression of it then would have been that much different. Because I did ultimately sort of enjoy it given all the above while actively rolling…

I liked it! But I, like many, have a lot of nostalgia doing a lot of work.

Some great performances. Moments of impressive use of a big budget.

sometimes feel the direction is tailored towards making a compelling trailer rather than the needs of the scene at hand. Wish we still relied on human syncopation to provide the wonder of a musical sequence in the modern musical - and a little less on cgi.

At least half a star to Amy alone.

Ambitious and presents interesting, big ideas. Unwilling to lean in and fully commit to being any one thing (which is perhaps a critique about a shallow view of motherhood). But I wish it felt a bit more cohesive. Or committed.

Certain moments really worked! And I’d do anything for the slightly severe spirit guide librarian (as I would in most instances)
