Ever since I watched Weerasethakul's Uncle Bonmee, and even Rohrwacher's Lazzaro Felice, I've been fascinated by the idea how these movies, which blurs the line between the spiritual and the real, would work in an Indian setting with all our cultural and political complexities, how singular that would be.
Watching Kapadia's AWIAL was everything I wanted it be and more. A surreal masterpiece that takes you from the rat cages of Mumbai to lush green godliness of coastal town in Konkan. A story on women companionship amidst the patriarchal hell we've created; a rejection of old Gods and the creation of new. Blurring the lines between Gods and humans, between languages, between the tall skyscrapers and the deep blue sea.

I was in awe for all the 2 hours and 40 minutes of its runtime. The word epic can't even contain how grand, how spectacular this movie is. You could almost see all the directors that took inspiration from this in every frame.
Kind of sad how even with all the technical advancements we've had in filmmaking over the years, making something this majestic on such a large scale almost seem impossible.
