I finally found the source of a great childhood fear...

Growing up I had a tremendous fear of something reaching out from under my bed and grabbing hold of me and pulling me to some hellish void. If I had to get up in the night I would take a running jump off my bed, slam into the wall and slide out the door in a flash. I woke my parents a few times with my crash.
