Dune: Part Two

2024

★★★½

White boy calls worm in PERFECT Freman, SHOCKS local Imperial Ziggurat.

mostly good, kind of underwhelmed, will probably grow on me, "cool" parts really deliver. Mostly just think the back half of that book is a real tough adaptation and a great display of relative narrative strengths & limitations of books & movies.

I often find movies that deal really heavily with someone having “visions” or “prophecies” frustrating since usually the dramatic tension then becomes “oh no, are they going to let the cool thing at the end of the movie happen or not??” Maybe I think this works better in the books since they can spend so much time dwelling on what various characters are actually thinking idk.

Also, somewhat chickened out by not having a weird smart adult baby Alia, but somewhat made up for it by having telepathic fetus conversations with many shots that could be described as “CUT TO: INT. WOMB”

Thought this was a good thread on the relative strengths of the adaptation: x.com/lauren_wilford/status/1763656890385359256?s=46&t=1vHo7swzxBn105spA-KI5A
