Following on from where "Dune" left off, "Dune 2" starts with the continuing journey of Paul Atreides ( Timothee Chalamet ) and his mother Jessica with the Fremen through the desert. As the house of Harkonnen regains its strength after defeating The house of Atreides their soldiers ramp up attacks on the Fremen. In an attempt to eradicate the Fremen and stop attacks on the Spice exports, ( allegory for oil and drugs ) The Harkonnen send troops into the desert with massive firepower. The desert warriors battling against the might of the off-Worlders ( allegory for Westerners ) lead to some remarkable cinematic moments as space craft and carrier ships explode while war rages.
Paul Atreides, in revenge for his father and friends massacre, leads a unit of Fremen against The Harkonnen taking the battle back to the planets aggressors. With more frequent and intense attacks against Spice depots and harvesters Paul gains the respect of The Fremen. This leads to rumours within the Fremen of Paul being the chosen saviour as prophesised by religious fundamentalists and ed down through the generations. Led by tribal leader Stilgar ( Javier Bardem ) the fanaticism surrounding Paul being the chosen one spreads quickly throughout the Fremen. Paul, highly trained by Atreides bodyguards, es various tests set by the Fremen that just amplifies Stilgar's claims. Using the strength of the rumours Jessica travels to other tribes to spread the news of the Chosen one's arrival to recruit more warriors to fight against The Harkonnen.
In an attempt to remove The Harkonnen and in revenge for The Emperors backing for the eradication of The Atreides, The Fremen headed by Paul come together to carry out a large scale attack plan. After forcing The Emperor ( Christopher Walken ) and his army to Arrakis to the failing Harkonnen army a final battle ensues for ultimate control of the planet.
Without doubt "Dune 2" is a massive spectacle that includes politics, love, religious fanaticism, revenge and scepticism mixed with fantastic set battle scenes and humour. One question however is continually running through the narrative. Should Paul, an outsider, be the one to lead and have control over the ancient civilisation of The Fremen? a question continually asked by Paul's Fremen girlfriend Chani ( Zendaya )
"Dune 2" is a remarkable blockbuster movie that is very well crafted. From Hans Zimmer's Oscar winning score to the cinematography and effects "Dune 2" is a massive spectacle with particularly well choreographed and extremely impressive battle scenes.
