This is such a comfy and cozy movie. Ben Stiller is a really good director and should do it more. When Walter (Ben Stiller) said, “Severance package” I wanted to cheer. Every scene with Sean Penn is gold and he elevated this movie a crazy amount.

Outstanding lead performances from Boseman and Ford make a decent Jackie Robinson biopic become something greater. This is a very cozy movie oddly enough. It feels uplifting and there's a lot of kind scenes in it that help balance out the racism from the other players. And I do love baseball so naturally I liked the baseball sequences.

This is one of the best murder mysteries ever written. I have to give it to Rian Johnson, the man knows how to make an airtight movie. This is an expertly crafted mystery on par with Agatha goddamn Christie! Each performance is perfect, Chris Evans and Daniel Craig are on another level in this one. As is Ana De Armas as she is the heart and soul of the film. The set design is amazing, every room tells you so much about the family and the characters. I don’t know what else to say, perfect movie no notes.

Oh wow. PTA’s still got it. I mean I don’t know why I doubted this one. On the surface it doesn’t seem like something I’d get into but wow did this one get me good. Also nobody told me Tom Motherfucking Waits was in this and frankly I’m hurt because I would’ve watched this way sooner. This is an amazing time capsule movie, I honestly think this works as well as Once Upon A Time In Hollywood in capturing the aesthetic of its time period. This movie lives and breathes the 1970s. Except this has the central romance as the center. Which by the way wow Alana Haim is spectacular in this and I cannot wait to see her in more things. This was just an incredible time. One Battle After Another is about to be generational because PTA has yet to let me down.

I wish I talked like Daniel Plainview. I wanna just yell, “BASTARD FROM A BASKET!!!” Whenever I feel like it. Just hit a, “I am an oilman” when someone asks what I’m doing later.

I change my mind, this movie sucks

I trusted Ethan Hunt one last time!!! I adored this movie. The fucking plane sequence??? The submarine??? This movie had incredible action scenes one after the other. Really impressive stuff. This is what blockbusters should be. Monumental stunt-work and acting combined to make a phenomenal time at the movies. Christopher McQuarrie delivers yet again with his masterful direction. I’m gonna miss Mission Impossible. But I’m so glad I was there for the journey.

Gave me my favorite Star Wars Villain. I really enjoy this even with it’s flaws. Absolutely incredible film that I truly love. It does have a slow second act but the third act fucks so hard. I’m really tired I cannot give this an in depth review. I do not have the energy. 9/10 in my enjoyment, 8/10 in quality.

I mean it’s good, I liked it overall. But I felt like the Sakaar stuff took way too long and most of the humor didn’t hit for me. I still love the Thor and Loki banter and both of them are still great. Strangely enough the Doctor Strange scene was my favorite in the movie. Also that post credit scene leading into Infinity War is really cool

James Franco is incredible in this and that sucks because he’s a sex pest. At least Dave Franco and Seth Rogan are still cool

One man stands with his team at his side to fight back against an ai that seeks to predict and control the world. That is the coolest plot for an action movie. Yeah this is my favorite idgaf. They brought back my boy Kitridge and everything in this one just screams that I would like it. I adore this movie and I’ll rewatch it over and over again probably. 11/10 on the fuck yeah score

Wong Kar Wai you man. How do you do shit like this? How do you make a perfect movie? Goddamn Chungking Express is damn near flawless. An expertly crafted pair of romance film(s) that are an absolute triumph together. I’m a wreck right now. I don’t know what to write. It’s really hard to write about perfect movies. Because what the hell am I supposed to say other than go watch this. What are you still reading this for?

They did it folks, they made the perfect movie. We can pack it up. Cracked the Da Vinci Code here and we get to go home. Perfect action, pacing, plot, it’s all here. Just an action masterpiece. Tom Cruise is at his best in this one showing Ethan’s fear of sacrificing the ones he loves effortlessly. It’s so sad to watch him grapple with the hard choices. Also Henry Cavil kills it in this one and is super menacing. My favorite villain in the series

It’s really late at night so in place of a review of this perfect movie. Here is a quote from the man himself, “I’m a man who believed that I died twenty years ago, and I live like a man who is dead already. I have no fear whatsoever of anybody or anything.”

This one is so so fun. Really enjoyed my brother’s reaction to all the comedy in this entry. This is easily the funniest MI movie for sure. The plane stunt is next level good.

"Next time, I get to seduce the rich guy."

This is such a comfort movie for me. When I was a kid this was the movie that got me into the MI movies. I love everything about this one. The incredible Burj Khalifa sequence. The introduction of my favorite character in the series Brandt (Jeremy Renner). I could gush about this movie all day...and so I will. This one also has the best costume change in the series so far. The reversible jacket unlocked new neural pathways in my brain. This one is directed spectacularly by Brad Bird. In a massive upgrade from JJ Abrams, no offense to him but god does Bird know what he's doing here. Léa Seydoux is one of the villains, bumping up Simon Pegg's Benji to main character status was a genius move. I love love love this movie. The run away from the dust storm. The incredible action choreography is masterful to watch. This one really is the big step into MI becoming the premier stunt franchise. Some of the action in this up there with the John Wick movies it's so good.

Every movie is improved by having Philip Seymour Hoffman. This movie goes so hard. Every scene is filler and builds tension so well. Such an amazing time, and yet every MI after this is better. I also which there wasn’t so much shaky cam.

Oh my god. Let me paint y’all a picture. Earlier today I’m going into the city to get some test results when I pop in my local Barnes and Noble just having a look. Not planning on buying anything just walking around. When I stumble upon this movie in the criterion section. “4k Director Approved 30% Off”. So I say to myself, “What the hell why not?” And I bought it (and Inland Empire). I decided to watch this first since I haven’t seen it before. And I was treated to a masterpiece. I knew of Jean Michel Basquiat beforehand but not extensive knowledge. Really only in relation to Andy Warhol who was one of my idols. I’m honestly glad I didn’t know a lot about him before this because I was so surprised at the events that occur and how true most of them were. This is such a tragedy about how one of our greatest artists died far too soon. I do like how they never actually get as far as his death. We just see what led to it. A regular rise and fall story. Also have I mentioned how every cool actor is in this? David Bowie, Jeffrey Wright, Dennis Hopper, Willem Dafoe, Gary Oldman, Parker Posey, hell Courtney Love shows up. I love everything about this movie and I’m so happy I own it now. All of you have got to check this out it’s really something.

I forgot how batshit insane this movie is. John Woo at his most unhinged. Why is this movie so horny?? Honestly sometimes uncomfortable watching this with my little brother. But Dougray Scott is great and Tom Cruise is still the president of movies so I did enjoy this

May not a perfect movie but this is definitely a perfect spy film. Just an absolute two hour blast that breezes by. You don’t feel the length at all. This was my little brother’s first watch and he absolutely loved it. Gonna keep going with these through the week. I’ll give more in depth reviews for the rest since I haven’t reviewed them here before.

The greatest Star Wars property. It's absolutely amazing. Anything I say praising it would be redundant. So I'll just say I'm gonna miss this show so much. And Syril was the best character.

This movie is absolutely bonkers and I loved every second of it. The Talking Heads poster at the start clued me in to what I was in for. Such an insane movie with amazing practical effects and surprisingly good lead performances. The gayest horror movie I’ve seen since Nightmare on Elm Street 2. Very very fun movie I’ll definitely be revisiting.

You ever watch a movie and immediately want to start it back up again when it’s over? That’s The Daytrippers. Just an absolutely incredible film full of some hilarious jokes and some real down to earth drama. Liev Schrieber absolutely steals the show in this as a real stuck up author, and sadly I related to him quite a bit. I mean truly a “literally me” character. Parker Posey is great as his girlfriend Jo. Mr. Conclave himself Stanley Tucci showed up at the beginning and the end which was a cool surprise. Hope David as Eliza is just such a sad character that’s going through something awful. I really felt bad for her, especially with her mother being so ive aggressive. Overall I just had a ball with this movie. I wanna get the criterion like now because I wanna rewatch this over and over. Gets my highest recommendation 10/10

Danny Trejo is so fucking cool

This movie’s great, probably the best thing Ron Howard’s ever directed. I really love how young Han is portrayed here and his friendship with Chewie is super endearing. His love interest is a bit bland but she’s acted well. Lando steals the show in every scene and I wish Donald Glover could play the character more. Yes the Han Solo name thing is contrived but after that first corny 20 minutes the movie is great. That being said the D**** M*** thing is stupid, if you cut it out of the movie you miss nothing. It’s honestly “hype moments and aura” the movie and yet the rule of cool prevails here. 8/10 fun as hell

First half so boring I forgot to log it last night.

Best Marvel movie I’ve seen. I absolutely loved this. Just a really fun adventure movie with a really nice message about mental health. I don’t have a whole lot to say only two main things. John Walker is my favorite mcu character. I love an asshole who gets a redemption arc. The other thing is I honestly like this team more than the Avengers. The Avengers are basically coworkers who are a team because they have to be. The Thunderbolts* (I love what the asterisk means) are a family forged in shared trauma and I love it.

Damn I actually really liked this. I love the way they use Sam to showcase how prejudice affects all even the most famous and heroic. It’s honestly really powerful the way his arc goes, the scene of him at the bank is so eerie and strange to be coming from a Marvel property. Bucky’s story is really great too and I’m excited to see how his and John’s continues in Thunderbolts which I’ll be seeing later today. The only way this show really falls flat is in it’s villain. The flag smashers are so boring and one note I didn’t understand why we were supposed to care about them. 
One final note, the image of the bloody Captain America shield bloodied is chilling. John Walker is a real piece of shit and I’m excited to see how he finds peace because that was fucked up.

Wait, is that a happy ending? I kind of think in a dark way Max killing himself effectively ending the Videodrome transmission is oddly triumphant. I don’t know, it seemed much bleaker on my first watch.

Pretty good movie. I mean it’s beautifully shot and everything but I feel this movie is hampered down by its storytelling style. I cared about none of the characters except for Kenneth Branagh’s guy and Cillian Murphy. The rest of them I could take or leave I find them all fairly uninteresting. This one just doesn’t grab me as much as most Nolan’s. Still good but not my cup of tea.

Guy Pearce is so good in this movie it breaks my heart that he doesn’t like his work in it. He kills it the whole way through and is what makes the movie. If we don’t believe Leonard that movie falls apart.

I have a lot of nostalgia for this movie but man does it have issues. But this is the most kid friendly Star Wars movie and I definitely think this was made for little kids. It’s no masterpiece but it’s a fun low key adventure. Also that final fight is really good.

Holy shit this movie is good. I’ve seen this movie many times in my life and I’ve never thought of it as anything more than a 6/10 at best. I thought the writing was trite and the action was gimmicky. But I have changed my point of view. Revenge of the Sith is a triumph and is incredible. Hayden Christensen and Ewan McGregor absolutely kill it as Anakin and Obi-wan respectively. They play such close friends so well that it really does crush you when they inevitably turn against each other. It almost felt like a Greek tragedy. Truly remarkable stuff

I need Jon Bernthal in every movie from here on out

Up there with a Rocky as THE dad movie. The most a movie has even been for a dad

Dan Stevens should be in every movie ever made. “Sammy those are fuckin onions” has been stuck in my head since he said it. Kevin Durand is super fun too. Kathryn Newton is super great and I really wish I knew what I recognize her from but I seriously cannot think of it. Also of course Melissa Barrera is great but that’s redundant she’s great in everything. The direction is pretty good if a bit jumbled at some points.

I’ve known Coogler was one of the best working today when I first saw Creed in the theater. And he only gets better with each movie he does. Sinners is no different.
An absolute tour de force of a film that transcends its own genre and is a truly masterful tale of an ideological battle. I loved every second of it. I’m gonna tiptoe around certain things because I don’t want anyone getting spoiled by my review considering I nearly got myself spoiled yesterday. All I’ll say is a few things I noted. 
There are two musical sequences during this movie that are absolutely breathtaking. One a celebration of community. And one a story of black music through past present and future that brought a tear to my eye. I couldn’t believe this was Miles Caton’s first movie because he stole the show and was so wonderful as this young musician Sammie. So amazing that he captivates the lead vampire Remmick. Remmick (Jack O'Connell) is the other character I wanted to talk about. He’s horrible but you can easily see where he’s coming from with little talk of his backstory. He really thinks he’s doing the right thing the whole way and that is the mark of a great villain to me. You don’t agree, but you understand. Cannot wait to see O'Connell in 28 Years Later.
Lastly…STAY TILL THE END THERE IS A POST CREDIT YOU DO NOT WANNA MISS!!!

Easily Tarantino’s most stylish film. Pam Grier and Robert Forester should be in every movie. Also one of the best soundtracks in cinematic history

“Zed’s dead baby, Zed’s dead.”

I’m gonna review this movie in three sections since it’s essentially three semi connected vignettes.

Vincient & Marsellus Wallace’s Wife

I don’t really give a shit about this section. It’s arguably the most iconic section of the film. Hell the poster is Uma Thurman’s character Mia who is only in focus during this segment. She’s a glorified background character for the rest. Her romance with Vincent is so boring and I didn’t care about either of their characters. I didn’t find them particularly endearing and when she overdoses it just felt like the story was spiraling out of control and not in a cool deliberate way. In a contrived way. The ending is sweet enough but man this was just not for me. 5/10

The Gold Watch

This is my favorite story of the bunch. Absolute gold from minute one. We open with Christopher Walken telling a little kid an insane story his dead dad’s watch that his same dad his up his ass. And then we go into Butch’s odyssey of pride and reflection. His quest for this watch is just an incredible story with the most style of the three. Bruce Willis kills it as Butch and I couldn’t see anyone else playing him anywhere near as well. He gets a happy ending that feels completely earned. Also he kills Vincent which is pretty great too. His strange common ground he finds with Marsellus by the end is strangely very genuine. Feels like one of the most sincere things Quentin Tarantino’s ever made. 10/10

The Bonnie Situation

This one is pretty fun. It’s the simplest of the three stories but is easily the funniest. “Aw man I shot Marvin in the face.” Is one of the funniest scenes in any movie it’s so stupidly perfect. This one has a lot of Jules and I think if the movie focused on him more than Vincent I’d like it a lot more. He’s such an interestingly laidback character who is changed by his experience. His idea of traveling the world is so cool I honestly want to see him do it. He’s so cool and Sam Jackson is so good. His banter with Vincent actually got me to finally like him. Vincent is a really good foil to Jules and I wish they were together for longer (even though they are together for quite a while granted). The Harvey Keitel cameo is so fun, Mr Wolf is great and he’s got some great one liners. On the other hand Quentin Tarantino has a stupid fucking cameo and is so obnoxious and dull that I wanted him off screen the moment he got on it. God he’s so self indulgent. 7/10

I do like the ending diner scene too but I consider it part of The Bonnie Situation so I don’t really care to write it its own section. Overall the movie’s like an 7.8/10. Not a masterpiece and definitely overhyped but a fun time that I enjoyed.

Heartbreaking: The most annoying man you know made an amazing movie.

Yeah I don’t like Tarantino as a person but wow this is insane directorial debut and should be commended. Just an absolute masterclass in direction, acting, and writing. A wonderfully heartbreaking story of deceit and paranoia. Those final 10 minutes with that cowboy stand-off are just immaculate. That last shot always stuck with me. Just a devastating conclusion. Tarantino really did some amazing work here. Why’d he have to be such an asshole???

Oh almost forgot to mention Michael Madsen is actually perfect in this movie. He plays Mr.Blonde so subtly sinister until of course he shows his true colors in the torture scene. He’s just so good.

I really wish I liked this one more. Some of the highest highs (The stuff with Bilbo and Thorin) and some of the lowest lows (whatever the fuck that Kili subplot was) I’m honestly disappointed that this movie has so many issues. But hey, that ending still does make me cry. So that’s pretty cool.

I gotta give the hobbit trilogy this. The through line is always Bilbo. He is the focus most of if not all of the time. And he is such an interesting character to deconstruct. I love everything with him in these movies. So I’m glad they exist. I’m sorry that Peter Jackson was thrown such a shit hand.

In conclusion to the Lord of the Ringsathon:
What did I learn? Nothing really, I still love this series. I’d recommend them to almost anyone. I think 90% of people would like them if they gave them a fair shake. I’m done, the back half of this movie (the battle not the ending. I actually really like the conclusion we leave on.) left me feeling so tired. Goodnight Tri-State Area

I really wish I liked this one more than I do. It’s the only Lord of the Rings movie (I’ve seen so far these past few years) I don’t consider exceptional. It’s pretty good but it really has a lot of busywork and strangely feels too long. It feels too long for the story it’s telling because they added a lot from the book. It suffers a lot because of these factors but there are a few things I really like. The character of Bard is a good addition as a man looking for redemption which is a trope I’m a sucker for. I also really love the last like half an hour of this. The confrontation with Smaug the dragon is very cool and gives the movie a strangely fitting downer ending. The final thing I want to bring up is how well this movie handles Thorn and Bilbo’s friendship. It’s very sweet has even more depth than the book. Their relationship is what makes these movies to me. Bilbo sees the sickness in him and tries to help but he can’t save him. I the conclusion in the next movie very well. It’s really well set up here.

Side Note: Adding Sauron to this movie is so fucking stupid.

Where to even begin with this one. It’s just a perfect conclusion. We keep trying to recapture this lightning in a bottle trilogy with other blockbusters but there’s no point. This is one of those lightning in a bottle films that cannot be replicated. It’s simply one of the greatest films ever made. Viggo Mortensen should've won that best actor Oscar or at least been nominated. I wish I had a better review for you but I am very tired and it is very late. Tomorrow I will continue the Lord of the Ringsathon with The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey

That was terrifyingly accurate to our current times. Constant cycles of entertainment becoming an extension of ourselves. Desensitization to everything. That is one of the best endings to any film I’ve ever seen. Cronenberg really is a one of a kind filmmaker. 

Always , don’t lose yourself.

“In one thing you haven't changed, my friend. You still speak in riddles.”

An absolute masterpiece of a film that I am not nearly as in love with as I am Fellowship and Return of the King. I don’t really know why. I adore the Aragorn, Legolas, and Gimli adventures and find them very entertaining. The Frodo, Sam, and Gollum stuff is fun if feeling like one big side quest. Which is especially odd because it’s the most important part of the movie technically. The Merry and Pippen stuff is ok. You know the Ent stuff didn’t interest me in the book and it doesn’t do much better here. I suppose it’s just up to preference. I like the more focused storytelling of Fellowship. Though I cannot deny this is a great movie it’s the one I will rewatch the least. Oh yeah and Faramir is pretty much just discount Boromir. All that said, that opening fucks hard and Gandalf is one of the most badass motherfuckers in fiction. 
What saves this movie for me is the Battle of Helms Deep. It’s such a perfect battle that somehow keeps its flow despite being incredibly long and filled with strife. It’s so perfectly done. And it shows why Aragorn is the best character in the series. He is the good man who stands out amongst all others as the king who can turn the tide of the war. He’s such an interesting character study, he’s not infallible but the people can count on him. And this is a perfect middle chapter to show how Strider becomes King Aragorn. It’s just so cool to see and Viggo Mortensen shows it with subtle acting perfectly.
I don’t love it but I respect the hell out of it.

So I didn’t even mean to watch this, it was just on and only like five minutes had ed so I figured eh I’ll leave it on for a few minutes and I ended up doing my whole morning exercises while watching this. Absolute masterpiece I was invested the whole way despite doing other shit.

Quite possibly the perfect movie. An actual masterpiece I cannot poke any holes into. An artistic achievement that showed what blockbusters could truly be. It’s simply perfect. Which is also why it’s hard to write a review of. I’ll have more writing tomorrow when I continue the Lord of the Ringsathon with The Two Towers.
