Morgan’s review published on Letterboxd:
14 Films Later - Danny Boyle
HUH?!
This movie right here is exactly the reason I love analyzing director’s careers like this. What an absolutely bizarre way to follow up Trainspotting. This is just so fundamentally different than that film it’s kind of baffling.
On a story level, this just does not work. It’s pretty tonally uneven and basically abandons the main conceit of the movie instantly, and the characters are a little thinly written, so it’s a bit hard to engage with on a deeper level.
But holy shit, this is so batshit crazy in every regard I can’t help but respect it. I won’t even bother trying to list all the wild stuff that happens in this, but I can truly say I never had any idea what was going to happen next.
The best part of the movie is easily Holly Hunter and Delroy Lindo’s stuff. A really unexpected but fantastically electric screen pairing to the point I wish the movie had been primarily about them.
Boyle’s direction is so energetic, I love it. That’s definitely another big aspect that helps elevate this above forgettable territory.
Technically not very good but a great time nonetheless.
