Midnight in Paris

“Nostalgia is denial. Denial of the painful present. The name for this denial is Golden Age thinking - the erroneous notion that a different time period is better than the one one's living in - it's a flaw in the romantic imagination of those people who find it difficult to cope with the present.”

Romanticization of the past is one of my favorite themes in film and literature (and something I often struggle with myself) so naturally, this fit me like a GLOVE.

Not quite sure Allen ever matched the lighting in a bottle success of Annie Hall again in his career, but Midnight in Paris is certainly the closest he’s come from what I’ve seen thus far. So marvelous and magical and melancholy - it feels like it was made just for me.

(And since English is one of my double majors... you can *BET* I WAS SCREECHING AT EVERY LITERARY REFERENCE)
